PRD: Nurturing The Next Generation Of Property Research Professionals
Property research has been in the DNA of PRD since its inception. Research is in fact what the R in PRD stands for, and we're passionate about cultivating the next generation of real estate research analysts. For the past decade, PRD's partnership with Queensland University of Technology (QUT) has provided upcoming property research analysts with hands-on experience through our PRD Research Internship Program.
To win an internship with PRD students compete in the PRD Annual Market Analysis Competition, which throws students into the real world of property development. Working in teams, students analyse a designated site using real industry data we provide. Their challenge is to identify the most profitable and strategic use for the land; be it residential development, buzzing retail, or a smart mix of both.
This year's competition focused on a site in Windsor, Queensland. Students teamed up to submit their findings and the top teams presented to their peers and a panel of judges, including PRD Chief Economist, Dr Diaswati Mardiasmo and QUT Associate Professor, Connie Susilawati at the PRD Corporate Head Office in Brisbane.
The judges were impressed by the quality of entries, with both the winning team and finalists showcasing exceptional talent. The winning team comprised of Harriet Couchman-Frame, Nima Murdoch, Sushaal Charan, and Wesley Reuben; with their winning presentation standing out for several reasons:
- Comprehensive research: They conducted a thorough analysis, exploring the suitability of the development site for various uses: residential, retail, commercial, and industrial.
- Innovative approach: Recognising Windsor's rental shortage, they proposed a creative solution, a build-to-rent development. This forward-thinking approach showcased their understanding of current market trends.
- Clear communication: Their report was easy to understand, with accurate data and compelling visuals effectively conveying their findings.
The dedication and insightful analysis from both the winning team and the finalists demonstrate the exceptional talent emerging from QUT's property economics fields of study. Their success exemplifies the power of combining academic rigour with real-world industry experience.
The PRD and QUT Market Analysis competition is more than just a contest, it's also a testament to our commitment to nurturing the next generation of property research professionals that will go on to inform and educate the real estate industry and property stakeholders alike.
