Plans to build more housing at Port of Airlie

Developers are seek approval for 6 new development lots at the Port of Airlie.

A proposal was laid out before Whitsunday Regional Council's May meeting to clear the way for new development lots at the waterfront site The Cove.

The council placed the development application on public notification between March 3 and March 25, 2021, receiving one public submission.

The council officers recommend the Meridien developers subdivide 5331M2 of land at 9-17 The Cove Road, Airlie Beach, into 6 residential lots.

The Proposed Lots 1 to 5 are recommended for individual dwelling houses, consistent with existing developments at The Cove.

There are plans for a four-story apartment building containing 19 three-bedroom apartments and a 40-space basement car park.

In conclusion, the council's perception of the proposal was "generally in accordance" with the Planning Scheme.
They have recommended it for approval while subject to changes.

The subject site is currently approved for 10 multiple dwelling unit/accommodation units and 10 community title lots. It now houses a Port of Airlie sales office and temporary yard used by Port of Airlie's landscaping contractors.
