The Shute Harbour Marine Terminal rebuild is anticipated to be concluded by mid-September 2021.
This restoration project will include construction of a new seawall, terminal, pontoons, and carpark at the Shute Harbour Marine Facility.
Eligible works received joint funding from the Commonwealth and State Governments under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
Here are the few updates so far, according to the Whitsunday Regional Council:
They have assembled a new seawall, and the entire facility and carpark level increased by an extra metre—all of this protect if from storm surges in the future.
The first and second floors's slab of the new terminal building has been placed, and works have begun to install reinforced concrete columns. This is to support the walls of the new terminal building.
Finger Pontoon 1 arrived last month by road from Townsville and has been reinstalled at Shute Harbour. The remaining two refurbished finger pontoons are expected to arrive in the next few weeks.
