The whales have arrived here in the Whitsundays!
Published 2020/06/31
Starting from June until the end of August, watch these breathtaking creatures in their natural habitat with the exquisite Whitsunday ocean views as your backdrop.
The abundance of whales is due to the annual migration of these animals from Antarctica to the Whitsundays.
Spot a tail splashing into the sea, watch them launch themselves out of the water, or send jets from their blowholes in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
There are strict regulations in place to protect these lovely creatures here in the Whitsundays.
As stated in the Sailing Whitsundays website,
The Whitsundays is a designated Whale Protection Area, and there are some rules in place to protect whales and ensure their safety by boats or aircraft.
The general rule of thumb is that you must not be operating a vessel within 300m of a whale. If a whale appears suddenly, within 300m, and approaches your boat, you should stop your engines until the whale has passed. Once safe to do so, you may restart and continue slowly onwards, away from the whale.
The Whale Season is a breathtaking sight to behold here in the Whitsundays! Witness the sight worth remembering.
