Whitsunday is one of the leading regions in affordability in the local government area in Queensland, as stated in this news from Whitsunday Times. 


According to an interview by PRD chief economist Dr. Diaswati Mardiasm, she stated her delight in seeing Whitsunday and Mackay outranked Brisbane for affordability.

She explains how the property price point differs in our region. For example, a house in the Whitsundays is priced at $375,00 and $260,000 for a unit. For Mackay, $380,000 for a home and $235,000 for a unit.

Those sorts of prices are not really prices that would be in Brisbane anymore unless you want to live out quite a long way, and you are wanting a very basic, almost sort of renovator-type product," Dr Mardiasmo said.

It is proving to be a safer haven for investor buyer-occupiers alike, as stated in this interview. There are out $1.1bn of developments poised for Mackay in 2021 and about $1.49bn for the Whitsundays.

"For a place like the Whitsundays, that is something that is definitely needed to ensure the employment rate stays at the current rate or lower," Dr. Mardiasmo said.

If you think of the property market's adaptability in its supply and demand, she stated that there are 515 new lots and 216 dwellings set to be created in the Whitsundays throughout 2021.

"That will definitely help first-time buyers that want to get into the market," Dr Mardiasmo said.
